National QR Schemes: PromptPay, SGQR, Bharat QR

Overview of national QR payment schemes built on or alongside EMVCo MPM, including PromptPay, SGQR, and Bharat QR interoperability considerations.

National overlays on a shared baseline

Many countries adopt EMVCo MPM as the payload grammar, then add local identification rules, reserved merchant account ranges, and operational policies. That creates national schemes that feel local while remaining structurally familiar to EMVCo parsers.

PromptPay (Thailand)

PromptPay merchant QR typically uses EMVCo-compatible TLV with Thai identification conventions for proxy IDs and merchant accounts. Currency is usually THB (764). Always follow Bank of Thailand / PromptPay issuer documentation for mandatory sub-tags.

SGQR (Singapore)

SGQR unifies multiple payment schemes under a Singapore QR framework with EMVCo-compatible structure and local scheme identifiers. Merchants may present one code that participating apps can interpret according to SGQR rules.

Bharat QR and India acceptance

Bharat QR is an EMVCo-based merchant QR approach used in India alongside UPI QR. Product teams should confirm whether a deployment needs Bharat QR/EMVCo MPM, UPI QR, or both, based on acquirer and consumer app mix.

Implementation tip

Treat national scheme docs as the source of truth for merchant account templates, then validate payloads with a TLV/CRC decoder before printing.
